Brendan from Beats Bus Productions bangs out some tunes with the kids

It was late afternoon on Good Friday. Samford village was eerily quite… that is, until the commons family hangout got into full swing. Excitement filled the air as kids scampered around John Scott Park in search of Easter eggs, while parents kicked back to watch the rising moon. Later Brendan Gilmour from Beats Bus Productions showed up with percussion instruments to pump out some cool rhythms on stage. It was an impromptu Beats Bus session tailored for our multi-aged group. There were African Djembe drums, a South America Cajon and a variety of homemade instruments fashioned from a collection of recycled materials!

The kids were enthralled by the power of these simple

instruments, and had a go at bashing out their own rhythms. Even the parents got in on the action.

That’s the thing about these family hangouts….. you never know who or what will show up.

The Samford Commons Member family hangouts are on the first Friday of every month at John Scott Park, from 5.30pm till 7ish. Its a great chance to get to know your fellow commoners. Next one will be 1st May.
